Western Union system

The system cooperates with most banks in Da Nang. If you want to receive money from Western Union, go to any large bank during their opening time. However, it is impossible to send money out of Vietnam while on a tourist visa.

Credit and Debit Cards

Credit and debit cards are increasingly being accepted such as Visa, MasterCard and JCB, and businesses usually add 3% commission. However, it should be remembered that Vietnam is on the whole still a cash based economy.

Currency Exchange

The Vietnamese Dong (đ) is currently trading at around 22,300 VND for 1 USD. US dollars are widely accepted however vendors prefer them to be clean and crisp. The downside to paying in USD is that the vendor chooses the exchange rate and rounds up to the nearest dollar so it becomes more expensive.

It is advisable to change your money at the airport as it is where most money exchangers are located and they offer competitive rates and free Wi-Fi to check the exchange rates. The head offices of the larger banks will only exchange USD. Street exchangers should be avoided as this is likely to be a scam.
